History
It appeared at the Detroit Athletic Club shortly before Prohibition: it was already on the club's menu in 1916, at 35 cents, as the most expensive cocktail in the house. Its creator is unknown, although the vaudeville performer Frank Fogarty, who took the recipe to New York, is sometimes credited with it. Forgotten for decades, it came back into fashion in the 2000s, when bartender Murray Stenson found it in a 1951 book and put it on the menu at the Zig Zag Café in Seattle.
