History
It became popular in Cuba shortly after 1900, when bottled Coca-Cola began to be imported from the United States; the name repeats the slogan of the Cuban independence movement. According to the most often told version, it was born in August 1900, when a serviceman from the US Signal Corps ordered Bacardi rum with Coca-Cola at a bar in Havana. The account comes from Fausto Rodriguez, who later became a Bacardi executive, and for that reason it is viewed with suspicion.
