History

The best-documented version credits Robert "Rosebud" Butt, who says he created the drink in 1972 for a triple sec cocktail contest at the Oak Beach Inn on Long Island, New York. Another story, hard to verify, places the origin in the 1920s, during Prohibition, with a certain Old Man Bishop in the Long Island community of Kingsport, Tennessee. Despite the name and the color, it contains no tea.
