History
The origin is uncertain and there are several competing stories, nearly all set in Mexico between the 1930s and 1940s. One of the most cited credits the drink to Francisco "Pancho" Morales, in Ciudad Juárez, in 1942. A cocktail of identical proportions, called the Picador, already appears in the Café Royal Cocktail Book of 1937, and the first known publication under the name Margarita is in Esquire magazine, in December 1953.
