History
It was created in the late 1980s by Keith McNally, a New York bar owner, and gained momentum after 1996, when bartender Dale DeGroff put it on the menu of a well-known bar in the city. The "French" in the name comes from the French raspberry liqueur used in the campaigns of the 1990s. It is often said that Chambord invented the drink, but that does not hold up.
